Connecting with our community 🏅💐
This week, our children and staff from across the centre ventured out to Victory Memorial Gardens here in Wagga to continue our learning on Anzac Day, Community and More. We enjoyed exploring the memorial of flowers laid by people in our community, looking at the eternal flame before engaging in age appropriate discussions on Anzac Day during a picnic lunch.
By embedding excursions such as these into our programs here at Possums not only are we supporting children to SHINE but inviting growth and development aligned with all areas of the Early years learning framework.
A bittersweet day here at Possums this week as we farewelled our Friend Dee, moving on to her next chapter in her career. Dee has been a valued part of our team, bringing warmth, dedication, and a genuine love for early childhood education. Dee has made a lasting impact on our Possums community over the years and will be greatly missed.
Thank you for all you have done Dee, All the best!
This week we talked about Anzac Day with the children, Caleb brought in his Army Reserves uniform and Chelsea showed the children her Army Cadets uniform. The children had the opportunity to wear the slouch hat but more importantly we were able to lay the foundation of our commemorative services tomorrow for Anzac Day…Lest we Forget 🌺
Possums Easter raffle was drawn today and we had 11 massive prizes, including a #Kebab’alish voucher and #foodworksturveypark vouchers
We raised almost $700 toward our building fund

Harmony day 🧡
Our service was a sea of orange today as we celebrated harmony day as a community.
The children, families and staff from across the centre shared dishes and foods that are important in their households and cultures. From Hawaiian sweet potatoes, Falafel and Fairy Bread the children most definitely have full bellies today. We spent the day painting, playing with play-dough, celebrating diversity through out our centre with cultural books and music.
Our day today is just a highlight of the harmonious, culturally responsive and diverse community we are proud to share here at Possums 🧡
Happy Harmony Day 🧡
Connecting with our community 🍎
As part of our ongoing commitment to embedding sustainable practices, connecting with our community and building strong health and well-being practices for the children. Our preschoolers engage in weekly excursions to our local fruit shop where we gather all the fruit we need for the week.
Building strong partnerships with our local community is just one of the many ways we cultivate the children’s curiosity and love for learning and enrich our programs allowing the children to shine. #waggafruitsupply
Farm animal visit 🦘 🐐
Here at possums we value building strong partnerships with our families so we can enrich the children’s learning with experiences like this.
One of our families surprised the children with a visit from their farm friends. A goat and a kangaroo. The children got to pat and feed the animals before engaging in lots of learning about the importance of caring for living things. Just another way we SHINE here at possums.
Colours, smiles and community 🌈
Celebrating cultural events play an integral role in our SHINE philosophy. This afternoon we came together to celebrate Holi. The Hindu festival of Colours. The children had a blast spreading colours on their peers and educators with cheers of happiness floating through our yard
Possums has the most amazing Parent Committee who today spent the morning fixing up some items around the centre. A big thank you to Tim, Shelby and little Charlie; Gill, Brad and little Piper; Tom and Colin; Courtney; Kaitlyn; Kristen; Dylan little Fergus and Nathan; Jen & her son Jamie; Dee & Simon; Mark & Lilias for making out centre look fabulous
Today our educators were very grateful to be able to spend the day together to prepare for the year ahead.
We spent the morning updating our CPR and First Aid training and updating our plan for our Curriculum Program
After a lovely lunch out our afternoon gave us the opportunity to look deeply into our communication and how we can best support each other, under the guidance of Sarah Moore from @earlyeducationleadership
Thank you to the Committee and all of our families for supporting us and making this day possible
Merry Christmas 🎄🧑🎄The preschoolers here at possums have been embedding sustainable practices into the program as we celebrate all things Christmas. Working collaboratively as a team, the children painted and decorated a large cardboard box creating Santa’s Sleigh! The children and their educators have enjoyed spending time in a Christmas wonderland of Imagination . Just another way our SHINE philosophy is embedded into our practices each day!
The children were so excited to continue our exploration of all things relating to airplanes as we visited the airport today. With a big thank you to Kylie @rex.airlines for showing us around: we saw the planes land and take off and most importantly we got to go on the airplane as it drove around the tarmac. It blew our minds that we got to sit in the actual cockpit. Life is good
✈️ Welcome to Possums Airport ✈️
Here at Possums our educators value opportunities for spontaneous learning and play scaffolded by the children’s interests linking their learning to life experiences happening outside the centre creating a strong foundation for being, becoming and belonging.
Using a variety of recycled and natural materials the preschoolers and their educators created their own airport and spent the morning travelling a world of imagination and friendships.
Today we had a visit from Anthony who took us on a musical journey with his guitar, kazoo, recorder and harmonica. He had the children up and moving as they learnt about Arlo’s Treasures where Arlo finds himself unprepared for the responsibilities of life. With three pups on the way he sets out in search of treasure. What he discovers is treasure he didn’t know existed. @anthony.zarb #arlostreasures
🍉🍓🍏 Connecting with our community.
Here at Possums our SHINE philosophy supports children on their journey of being, becoming and belonging which encapsulates the children’s ability to be active, informed and involved citizens of their community. Our regular Monday excursions to our local fruit shop gives the children an opportunity to develop understandings of themselves and the world around them through active, hands on investigation and learning.
🚀☄️🪐 All things Space!
Our preschoolers learning has been fueled by imagination and curiosity this week, as they explored all things space as an extension of their interest and voices. In alignment with our SHINE philosophy here at possums our educators have nurtured and scaffolded this interest through child led play based experiences

This morning Kel, Dee and Kristen attended the book Launch for ‘Growing Up Wiradjuri’ a collection of stories from the Wiradjuri Nation, Aunty Lorraine Tye, Aunty Cheryl Penrith, Aunty Mary Atkinson, Aunty Isabel Reid and Dr Anita Heiss all shared stories on the process of writing the book. Such an inspiration #growingupwiradjuri @collinsbookswagga
To show our respects on #nationalsorryday2022 the Preschool children walked down to the Sorry Rock for the Sorry Day Ceremony.
The children sat and listened to the stories being told of the stolen children and some children were included in the smoking ceremony. They particularly enjoyed the didgeridoo and how it was played with a boomerang tapping on the side. Such a great opportunity to connect with our community and expand the children’s understanding.
Today we celebrated Holi which celebrates the arrival of spring in the northern hemisphere, the blossoming of love and for many, it is a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair broken relationships. The children enjoyed painting each other and especially the educators. #possumselc #holi2022
